Happy, Good-Luck Bats & Horseshoe Crab Video DVD

Two great models plus an exhibit tour. Intermediate level projects.

Total run time is approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes.

This video DVD is a satisfying introduction to wet-folding. Michael demonstrates how to fold his delightful "Happy, Good-Luck Bat" in flying and roosting configurations. In the Orient, the bat is a symbol of good fortune. The wetted paper is fun to sculpt. When they dry, they retain the shape you have given them.

These wonderful bats can be arranged in a multitude of ways to liven up any celebration. Michael designed this bat for Saks Fifth Avenue's sponsorship of an Asia Society fund raiser. Hundreds of the laughing bats of different colors and sizes, suspended from the ballroom ceiling with monofilament, formed a fantastic funnel of flying funsters for the gala event. Each of the popular bats were cut loose and auctioned-off at the conclusion of the celebration.

Michael's Western Atlantic Horseshoe Crab is a delight to fold and produces a very realistic model of what you would see when you encounter a molted shell on the beach. Since the legs are not necessary on this model, this folding design is more-accessible to the beginner.

Both of these models communicate the vision and skill of an artist as each object is carefully "sculpted" while the paper is moist, using the wet folding technique.

This tape also includes a video tour of one of Michael's origami exhibits in the Boston area (at the Yamawaki Art & Cultural Center of Lasell College in Newton, MA) showing many inspiring examples of his original origami art, as well as a few pieces graciously loaned by his master, Akira Yoshizawa of Japan, for this event. Diagrams of both of these projects are featured in our newest book, "Advanced Origami".
